Joann is an HR professional with 30 years of varied experience at Eli Lilly. She joined Lilly in 1977 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology from the State University of New York. It took only 4 short years for Lilly to recognize that Joann belonged in management. Joann was named Department Head of Biosynthetic Purification at Lilly’s insulin facility. In this capacity, she managed the 24/7 production operation including a staff of over 100 technical employees.

Three years later, Lilly further recognized Joann’s talents and named her the primary HR consultant for all of its administrative functions including legal, financial and corporate affairs. Even at this early stage in her career, Joann was asked to translate leadership theory into real business practices for this major pharmaceutical company.

Line responsibilities called and Joann was asked to head up all administrative services in another Lilly 24/7 operation, this time at Wishard Hospital. From clinical research to Director of Operations at Clinton Laboratories, Lilly counted on Joann for everything from production to environmental affairs to human resources.

From 1990 to 1998, Joann led HR for the Global Clinical Organization. Subsequently, Joann headed up Lilly’s entire HR organization for Asia. With 10 countries under her expert leadership, Lilly experienced unprecedented growth of over 300% in Lilly China.

During this time, Joann and her staff of professionals delivered every aspect of HR from recruiting to compensation to training and leadership development.

The Asian Human Resource Conference Board recognized Joann’s talents and invited her to join its executive ranks. Lilly graciously concurred and Joann served on behalf of Lilly for 3 years.

The demands of family and a young son brought Joann and her husband back to Indianapolis in 2003 where she acquired the HR responsibility for Lilly’s Global Sales and Marketing organization and corporate responsibility for succession management.

In 2007, immediately upon retiring from Lilly, Joann became a consultant with The Strategy Forums, an organization dedicated to connecting leaders in order to drive profitable growth. Joann also serves on a number of not-for-profit boards.

With an Executive MBA certification from Johnson School of Business at Cornell University, Joann has the keen ability to balance employee issues with a company’s need to achieve results. Every business that interacts with Joann sees her as an unparalleled strategic partner.
